Volunteering by our members

PMI Mumbai Chapter volunteers conducted a career counselling session at the Asha NGO, which was requested by the students and Dr. Punyani. The timing of the session couldn't have been more perfect. It was just the day after the announcement of the 12th class results. The students were eager to receive guidance on their future career paths. We were happy to be able to assist them in making informed decisions about their careers. It was a pleasure to see that the students had performed well and were happy to know the options open to them. The session proved to be a success in offering valuable insights and advice to the students.

The Clothes Donation initiative by PMI Mumbai Chapter was a great initiative that promotes social consciousness and community focus while also linking to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The project aimed to collect clothes for the children of Asha NGO in Powai, Mumbai, who may not have the luxury of having nice and presentable clothes. The project was a huge success, with several chapter members donating loads of clothes, sarees, and curtains. The sarees and curtains will be used for making shopping bags, reducing plastic in circulation. Additionally, this project will help reduce fashion pollution as 10% of carbon emissions and water pollution is caused by fashion pollution. Overall, this project was a great way to give back to the community while also promoting sustainability.

Summer camp was held at Asha Mumbai from 17th to 22nd April 2023, where livelihood skills such as bath soap making and chocolate marking were taught to 60 children, 10 staff and 20 volunteers. These skills help to earn a living as a side hustle. Children enjoyed making soaps and also eating the chocolates. Beautiful and fragrant hand made soaps were then distributed to the children for their personal use.

Career counselling sessions were held at Asha Mumbai for students of Class 10 and 12 on 11th March 2023 and 1st April 2023, respectively. Both sessions were attended by about 30 children each from Class 10 and Class 12. Children got a perspective of the sea of opportunity available to them after completing Class 10 and 12 exams. Much needed career guidance was made available to the children who followed up the sessions with a lot of queries and individual perspectives.
